Licensed Associate Counselor and Social Psychologist
About me

I am a Licensed Associate Counselor (LAC #: 37AC00701400) currently practicing in Morristown, New Jersey under the supervision of Kathleen Dennis (LPC #: 37PC00503500). I received my B.A. in art and psychology from Lafayette College, my M.S. and Ph.D. in social psychology from Rutgers University, and most recently, my M.A. in clinical mental health counseling from Fairleigh Dickinson University. Here's my Psychology Today profile.
I like to learn. My doctoral training was as a social psychologist, which intro psych textbooks will tell you is the study of how our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are impacted by the actual or imagined presence of others. Basically, social psychologists investigate why people do what they do (because when you think about it - an imagined other plays a role in pretty much everything we do). I investigated this first by conducting academic research and writing up studies for peer-reviewed journals, and then by creating and analyzing survey research and polling for news outlets, non-profits, and NGOs both in the US and abroad.

About a decade ago, my research focus turned towards trying to better understand pain - but like really understand it. I wanted to figure it out from the level of how receptors on nociceptive (pain-sensing) neurons work to the level of how we consciously experience both physical and emotional pain. As it turns out, this is no small feat. It sent me far into the weeds of physiology, neurobiology, and philosophy (among many other fields). More importantly, it prompted a lot of thinking about how we heal from pain, which ultimately reignited my desire to help others who are suffering to get through this thing called life.
